Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment
Would you capture it?
Or just let it slip

Day 7: Another One Bites The Dust

I persuaded Jamie Lomshek into coming with me today.  She frequents The 7-6 also, so getting her to mix it up was a good thing.  As we entered the 119th Club, Jamie asked Dusty "What style is this trainer?"  Dusty's reply was "He is really good and has a military and MMA background."  The look on Jamie's face became very anxious and wondering why she agreed to walk into the unknown.  As we were getting geared up, I see Shelley Patenaude come into the club.  It was cool to see another familiar face.  119th is her stomping ground, so maybe she could calm our nerves?  When told that she had not been to this trainer either, we were all just running blind.

As we start to hit the bag, I hear the song 'Another One Bites The Dust."  And another ones gone and another ones gone....I couldn't help but think about this being day 7 and was feeling good about singing "Hey, I'm gonna get you too!"  After all, I was breaking new ground because previously my record was only 5 days in a row.

I was expecting Aaron to be yelling at us like a drill sergeant, but was just the opposite.  He was very encouraging and had a good mix between running, boxing, and exercises such as "Burpies."
The definition of a Burpie, according to the Urban dictionary....

Jamie, Aaron, Becky, & Shelley
To experience a burpie, start off with feet together in a wide bent over hands on the ground position, kick your legs back behind you,(so it looks like you are going to do a push up), being them back forward to your starting position, then stand up, jump and reach for the sky. Repeat

I got true motivation from his music playlist.  He was rocking the 80s with Poison, Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, and Scorpions.  I admit I am a music nut, especially when it comes to 80s Hair Bands!  I found it appropriate to entertain Jamie with some singing as we were pulling ourselves up to do sit-ups while crushing the medicine ball into our bags.

Towards the end of the workout, Aaron asked us to lay down and put our arms over our head and hold onto the bag.  Then, pull our legs straight up in the air and touch the bag.  When bringing legs down to repeat, legs could not touch the ground.  I was able to perform this with no problem, until Aaron came over to push my legs down to the ground to add resistance.  I was able to do 1 more until I folded.  My legs were like soggy spaghetti noodles!
Sorry... couldn't help it :)

Today, I learned that sometimes it's just better to not know what to expect or try to figure it all out.  Just go with it and enjoy the adventure and in the end...it turns out just like Bret Michaels says "Nothin but a Good Time."  Also learned to not piss Shelley off, as she could kick some serious A!

Aaron~ Don't be surprised if I come and hang out on Sundays just to hear your music!

Jamie~ Thanks for taking a chance and going out of your comfort zone.  You did awesome today while shaking up your workout!

In the spirit of this being day 7, I have also been reflecting on my 7th year of life.  It was truly the best Golden birthday (7 on the 7th) that any kid could ask for.  I had a huge party in the park and got a rabbit named Peter.  Thanks Mom!
