Well, I'm about 4 months into the new era of being 40. After quite a long break from 40 days of boxing, many beers and pondered thoughts, I am moving in a new direction. Shortly after my 40th, I was driving home one day and a thought occurred to me like a ton of bricks! Why am I paying someone $533 a month to pick up my kids from school?? This is clearly something I would love to do and the payoff would be priceless.
After both twin births, work was always waiting 8 weeks after. I knew I had to return for financial reasons and benefit reasons. I would continue in the rat race because I knew I had to. I would not think about it too much to avoid thinking about missing out on their moments. I still remember loading those tiny little babies in car carriers and delivering them to someone else to enjoy all day. Then, I would return for pick-up after a long day and totally exhausted. That just became the norm and a way of life. After going through the daycare stages, it remained the norm but just in a different way. After many long days of work, I would wander home to find my family had already eaten dinner without me, homework was all done, and lunches were all packed for the next day. Why this might sound like a dream to most Moms, it was really sad for me. I was totally missing out!
How could I change this? Our kids will only be around us for 10 more years (maybe less as they continue on in the teen years.) I want to be there everyday to pick them up! To find out how their day went, what they learned, and who got in trouble, hoping it wasn't them. I love to hear things from their perspective. It makes me think differently and become even more creative. Speaking of creative, we will be doing just that. After submitting requests, knocking on doors, talking to lots of other working mamas, and spreading the word, I've finally achieved MY GOAL. This is not some personal mission of a fitness challenge, but real life stuff. I've decided to slice my hours (and salary) to make a pretty significant change. MY GOAL, which was set several months ago after that tireless drive home became to be in a role that I could pick my kids up from school everyday. So, the time was ticking because I had a deadline...August 13th! For anyone who knows me well, I went right to the numbers and my friend, the excel spreadsheet. What would this look like? Could we do it and still pay the light bill? After lots of number crunching, the answer was absolutely we could find a way to make it work. After all, I am the queen of thrift. I can make the best of anything. I am a survivor of financial creativeness. (Thanks Mom!) I've always had that in my blood, but having Dave Ramsey knock me over the head about 4 years ago was definitely a factor. At first when living the Dave lifestyle, the kids wondered why we were so concerned about money and how much things cost. Why weren't we going to dinner? Why couldn't I get that new pair of shoes that I really, really WANT? Best thing we ever did, as it has taught our kids the value of money and financial awareness. They really consider now and almost need to hold a debate of whether to spend a dollar of their money. Is it something they really need or just WANT?
MY GOAL has become so much more than a goal. It will be life changing for us all. August 13th will be here soon, and that is the day I will start my new schedule and will be stepping out of the greeting card arena at 2:30 sharp everyday. Yes, I made the deadline..and yes, I will be there to pick my kids up from school everyday. But even more is I will be there, be present, and ready to listen. Really listen! I can't wait to start my new role. Not the one at the greeting card biz, but the one titled "MOM."
Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment
Would you capture it?
Or just let it slip

Reflection
Well, after the 40 days, I was ready for a break! Hubby & I traveled to Arizona for an all expenses paid trip for winning the KC Slimdown Challenge in October (Thanks Cerner!!.) My team of 5 grabbed the winning title with an 18% weight loss out of 1800 teams that competed throughout the metro. The trip was totally amazing! Every last detail was handled with massages, transportation, meals, and pool time! I savored every moment as I knew this was a vacay way beyond my budget.
40 days, 40 trainers...Check! I'm so thankful for all the support from my husband, kiddos, family, friends, co-workers, trainers, and NEW title friends. It was more amazing than I had ever hoped for. Boxing has become a passion for me, but was so powerful to see others getting motivated to be healthy. I truly believe that finding something you love, will keep you motivated. It doesn't matter what it is. I know that I want to start my 40s the best shape I've ever been in.
So now what? It feels good to have the pressure off for a bit. I could train for another race, but that seems kinda boring now. I've been thinking about several things, but haven't landed on anything yet. My 12 year old twins have never run a half marathon...maybe shift my focus to helping them achieve some goals?
For now, 3-4 days of boxing and 2 days of running. Maybe the next challenge will come to me as I hit the streets of OP singing with Bret Michael's...
You gotta cry tough
Out on the streets
To make your dreams happen
You gotta cry out
Out to the world
To make them all come true
Life ain't no easy ride
At least that's what I am told
Sometimes the rainbow baby
Is better than the pot of gold
You've got to stick it out
Whether you're wrong or right
And you can't give in without a fight
To make it baby
You gotta aim high, baby
Whether you lose or win
And when you get to the top
You gotta get off or go right back down again.

Day 40: The Final Countdown
My Entourage with Roberto ~ Suzanne, Lee, Linda, & Jamie
At least I had a previous glimpse of what I was walking into today. I would just do my best and focus on the task at hand....To hit that 40 days will be an amazing feeling! I was so excited to see my entourage there to support me! Suzanne, Linda, Lee, and Jamie were all in the house! When I approached my bag, I could see balloons and a card. Kim, our wonderful owner and cheerleader, had taken the time to set this up for me. I was truly shocked because everyone is so busy and know it takes extra effort to do this. This is why Kim has been able to build such an amazing business. She does truly care about each individual!
My Surprises ~ Mom & Dad
As I rounded one of the numerous laps, I hear Jamie say, "Your parents are here!" I was wondering how they were able to make it there without me knowing. Were they playing hookie from work? My Mom always knows just the right thing to do or say. Every Hallmark card she buys me is absolutely perfect and makes me cry. She finds little gifts that hold memories for me. She is the master of life's little surprises. Yeah, she pretty much knows me after 40 years! As for Dad, he is ALWAYS there. He may not say much, but know I can always count on him!
The heat was on! I was definitely feeling it while sharing a bag with Suzanne. She is like a machine that can throw kicks to knock you off your feet! I struggled to hold the bag for all her power. We continued to switch off holding the bag while punching/kicking. I was on the floor for one of the final times doing side kicks while rolling onto both hips with Roberto yelling, "Fight for your life!" I just felt this surge of energy and started kicking the bag with all my strength. Then, jumped up and punched the bag as if I were filming a Rocky movie! Was it some weird adrenaline? I was just so pumped up knowing we only had a few moments left until the finish. As we ran the final lap, I threw my hands up in the air and just took a deep breath. I did it! All the planning, driving, calling, confirming, adjusting, sweat and sore muscles to make it to this moment. As we stretched, I couldn't help but smile as this goal was now crushed! Roberto gave a shout out to the birthday girl to make sure I got my money's worth today. Indeed I did...and more! I got closure to the goal I had been kicking around for quite some time. Then, wasn't sure I could do it after Hubby's medical scare. But, when I'm in...I'm all in!
It was a truly amazing start to the day...To end the 40 day journey and get ready to start a new one with a new decade of life. 40 felt amazing! After all, it's only a number. As I say..."I just never act my age, so I'm never really that old."

No Doubt
As I reflected this morning and got a bit teary eyed, I have so many people to thank. One in particular is Jason @ The 7-6. He was my Day #1 to kick this whole thing off. At that point, I wasn't sure I could pull off a blog and was planning my strategy. I thought to myself...Could I really do this??
So, I attended Jason's kickboxing class and told him what I was thinking. I was definitely committed, but just wasn't sure about all the logistics. That night, I came home and started the blog with just a real quick post. This was it....
I sent Jason a quick note on FB to tell him I was totally in! Here was his response..

The next day when I walked through the door...Here is how he inspired me:
As I walk through the door at Title, Jason asks..."Day 3?" He had no idea how much I was talking to myself on the ride over in an attempt to get the sore muscles pumped up. Sometimes trainers, such as Jason did today, have no idea what an impact they can make with 2 simple words. That was rockin and just what I needed to put one foot in front of the other!
My husband loves, loves to attend Jason's class. Therefore, we always had to duke it out on who was going to attend. I'm so nice and want him happy, so often times I would just give in:) I truly enjoy Jason's class and am pumped when my schedule allows me to go! Don't think I don't get my butt kicked though. I remember one night in his class, I don't think we hit the bag until 30 minutes into class. I was just dying after running with the med ball and drill after drill without any relief. So, hitting the bag that night was my break!
I know during this whole process, he would always be asking hubby about my progress. He truly cares about making sure everyone is at their best.
Jason~ Thanks for never doubting that I could tackle this crazy goal. You are ALWAYS a ray of sunshine and you should be proud of the work you do. You are changing lives everyday! I will see you again real soon! Tears:)

Well...
I started my 40 day quest last night....40 days of fitness (i.e. boxing) with hopefully 40 different trainers. I have my excel doc all prepared with all the "opportunities." If you go into your 40s in good shape, won't you leave your 40s in the same shape??
Jason's kickboxing class was a sure way to say I'm in it to win it. You know I just have to have a challenge to keep myself motivated. Today, I feel refreshed and ready to take on a new trainer tonight. I have my fresh carbs to take in today and plan on staying super hydrated. I think I will try out the 121st & State Line location at 7p and see what Tyson is all about.

Day 39: Some Jeron Lovin'
I was pumped all day to get to the club. I knew Jeron would be there with a smile and a hug:) I already confirmed with him earlier in the week to make sure he would be there. His response was, " I won't let you down. I've been waitin though."
Jeron was my first workout at Title. Even though I had been running, I was not prepared for what he had in store. My friend, Suzanne, finally got me to agree to attend. I was nervous and wasn't sure what to expect. But, once the music started and everyone was hopping and getting pumped, I was in! I wasn't able to complete all the commands but the accomplishment afterwards felt powerful. I still remember him shouting, "If you want to change your body...Punch faster now!!" That has just stuck with me and I've never heard him say it again. Even though he doesn't say it, I think about it when I'm in the zone. I love to the in the zone while in Jeron's class! I just focus on doing my best and leave all my worries and "to do" list at the door.
Tonight, my friend, Suzanne got to workout with me again. It was a bit emotional knowing that this is where my obsession all started...doing a trial workout with Suzanne at Jeron's class. In addition, my friend, Lee, was in the house. She was deciding whether she wanted to take the Title plunge. I know she will get the Title obsession. I get super excited for my peeps knowing they will be seeing life changing results in the next 30 days. It's such a rush!
I've missed Jeron's workouts and am ready to get back to his class. He has such a magnetic energy and you can't help but gain some positive, mentally & physically. You just have to get there early to get a bag, especially in the evening. It was a full house tonight with every bag full. Apparently, everyone else was in need of some Jeron lovin'!
Jeron~You were my gift at the end! Thanks for always encouraging me to push harder. Your positive vibe is contagious and know that you inspire people everyday:)

Day 38: Kick it!
While waiting to start Jessica's class, I got a chance to chat with her. I went ahead and told her about my mission when she was making the rounds. I figured it wouldn't hurt anything and could use the extra encouragement after busting it to make it to Olathe on time. She told me that she already knew about me and had seen my blog. She thought it was a cool idea and she had experienced 27 different trainers. She told me she had a karate background and just started training at Title. I was super pumped to check out some more girl power.
We did some stretching and then med ball work. Running with the ball above my head is just a killer for me. It was testing all the arm strength I had left. Once we got good and warmed up, we were ready to start with some kicks. The combos Jessica put together felt comfortable, so was able to get into a rhythm. She did a great job of mixing in drills between, even though burpies are not my friend.
The abs were a real challenge. I did my best to hold my legs high up on the bag while lifting my body up to punch. I just continued to push with all my strength knowing we were on the home stretch of the last 15 minutes. I had pushed so much for the last 37 days. In just a few short minutes of pain, I would be just 2 workouts away from making my goal! I was ready...so ready!
After class, I got to talk to Jessica more and exchange some stories about trainers we knew. I loved her encouragement, knowledge, and skill level. She delivered some power with her kicks. I was in awe and aspire to be there someday. I need to focus more on attending some kickboxing classes. While on a running training schedule, I tried to stay away from kicking knowing my legs would already be working hard. But, maybe the combo of kicks and running could make my legs even stronger to conquer those miles?
I'm glad I got to cross paths with Jessica. I enjoyed her class and getting to know her. I will be scheduling another road trip to see her again:)

Day 37: Art of Surviving
After a butt kicking from Bilal, it was super difficult to hit the floor today. I got up and out the door just in time to make it to the 148th club for Art's 6a.
As I got wrapped and started running around the perimeter, I was just dragging! We got good and warmed up with several drills before gloving up. I was a zombie! No matter what I did, I could not shake it. Muscles sore, eyes hazy, and mind wandering....
Once we hit the bag, I was relieved since this is my absolute favorite. I quickly realized it was kickboxing, not boxing. But, it might be a good change up since I'm always so drawn to boxing. Art did several combos that included some good punches. He stopped by my bag at one point to correct my kick. Usually, I don't have a problem with foot placement and turning my hips, but today I was dazed.
All I kept thinking was just make it through, then a 36 hour break until Wed eve. It's day 37! Seriously, just keep moving and breathing. I think I actually felt better after I completed my first full marathon than at this moment. I thought about how I had chuckled when someone at the Parkville club questioned my mission. Her statement was, " You can't go that long without giving your body a break." My response was, "Well, that is what I'm doing the other 23 hours a day that I'm not working out."
Art continued to challenge my zombie state. As we were doing abs and I was just staring at the ceiling, he asked, "How do you feel?" I said, "About 50%." I think he was taken back a bit and said, "Well, we will take it then." At that point, he had no idea what my body had been through the last 37 days. I usually wait until after the workout just to make sure I get an authentic experience.
After class, I talked to Art for a few minutes and told him that he about almost messing up my schedule. On one Tuesday morning, I was on my way to attend his class to find out it would be Paige instead. He shared with me that his wife just had a baby, so needed to help Mama out...I was thinking that he should be the one in a daze with the lack of sleep. So, I quickly let him off the hook as I do remember those newborn days...doubly vivid. Luckily, it all worked out. Just like today...I WILL survive.
On the way home, I think I finally woke up. As I came to the realization that I only 3 more days, I was super pumped!
Oh, no, not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive, I will survive, oh

Day 36: Bilal...Nuff Said!
As I made the journey over to the Lee's Summit club, I knew Bilal would be a challenge. But, I was determined to meet my goal and wanted to hit every club in the metro. I looked online to see just exactly where the club was located due to going into unfamiliar territory. When I exited off 291, the directions were a little confusing, so I somehow got turned around and began to get nervous. I could not be late! I pulled into the BP gas station to run in and ask if I was close. Shout out to Ryan @ BP, who got me back on track. He walked outside and showed me the Price Chopper behind the building. He pointed and said it's right on the other side. I was so relieved since I knew I would be there in time to get organized. Ryan @ BP (291 S & Jefferson) is sure to have good karma! It's not always common to find someone to go out of their way to help you out! If you see him, give him a fist bump!
As I made it inside the club, it was hoppin. Bilal was walking around talking to everyone and getting pumped up. There were several newbies checking out the club for the first time.
After stretching a bit, we grabbed a med ball to start running with it. Not sure why I was inclined to grab my normal 10 lb black ball. Note to self: In Bilal's class, grab the lighter one! We ran with the ball above our head, out if front, and continued with squats. It was all I had to keep moving while my arms were just dying. That was the hardest 15 minute warm-up of all time. I was really worried about what would be ahead after the warm-up.
We continued with punch combos, push-ups, burpies, planks, and more running. Bilal's pace was intense and he remained so calm throughout the whole workout. It was a definite challenge, but I would do it again...maybe when it's not my 36th day in a row!
I enjoyed chatting with him after class. He seemed very genuine and I look forward to our paths crossing again:)

Day 35 : Gimme a B - I - G - G
I was filled with excitement to make it to this day to workout with Bigg Ron...and a little too much partaking at a Sat night surprise Birthday party (Thanks Kyley aka Best Hubby!!!)
Bigg Ron was one of my beginning trainers when I started with Title. He has helped me so much with technique, improving my intensity, and the dreaded ab work. When I first started, I could not even pull myself all the way up to the bag during ab time. He continued to encourage me to breath out on the way up. I specifically remember him saying..."Give it 2 weeks and you will do it!" Guess what...He was absolutely correct! It's like he's a fortune teller or something.
Bigg Ron has a gift for helping others reach their goals, not only at Title but with our youth. He invests lots of time & effort at The Pound 4 Pound Elite Boxing gym to help mentor young people through boxing. He is someone they look up to and drive to succeed with education and life. I've seen this first hand as I attended one of his 2 hour workouts at the gym. I did make it through the first hour:)
I've taken several of my friends to attend Bigg Ron's class as their first. He offers such a sense of comfort, especially to the newcomers who are very uncertain. His class offers individual attention, patience, encouragement, and smiles when he shows off his dance moves!
Bigg Ron ~ I can't thank you enough for all you have done for me. Attending your class makes me a better mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, employee and friend! We are blessed to have you. Keep up all the work. You are making a difference!
Ladies~Thanks for coming out to show support! You are all awesome and 1,000 calories leaner..or 2,000, which was Bigg R's goal today!

Day 34: NKOTB
Since Kim was stalking Ray, the new kid on the block at The 7-6, I was pumped to keep my 40 day streak alive. 40 unique workouts is my goal! I would even drive to the ends of the earth (or Missouri) to make it happen.
I was curious to check out NKOTB and knew nothing about him. Since he was training at my club, I needed to find out what he was all about. When I saw him warming up on the treadmill, I thought it might be a runners workout today.
When I saw my friend Jamie, I knew we would have a good time. She can always make me laugh and could help take my mind off feeling a tough workout. This was definitely a plus and was ready to take on NKOTB.
Ray gave us a thorough stretch, which is a huge win for me. We did run quite a bit, as I predicted. His workout was very energetic and fun. He was sprinting around the room, so slacking was not an option.
After Jamie & I made it through the gig, we waited to get our pic just like a little fan club. We almost didn't recognize him when he reappeared in his wardrobe change.
The only thing that would have made this better is if would have started singing...."Please Don't Go Girl" in that high pitched voice we all love!
Ray~I will see you on the next tour very soon!
Jamie~Thanks for making the gig! You rock!

Day 33: Feel Good Friday
I was pumped when my friend, Linda, contacted me to hit "Feel Good Friday." We have tried to continue these in honor of Heath, a trainer at The 7-6 who left us due to starting a club in St. Louis. I wonder how he is doing?
Again today, my body is questioning me and wondering when I will stop. Well, only 7 more days then it's break time for a few days! I'm definitely getting the itch to run again with this wonderful weather. So, already have that on the agenda to combine with my regular 3-4 days of boxing.
Linda was kind enough to pick me up today, so made it a little easier to get out the door on time. As we walked into the Olathe club, I confirmed with Barry at the door..."Still Josh, right?" I got the thumbs up, so our Feel Good Friday was on!!!
Josh was the absolute nicest trainer in the metro. After giving instruction, he would say.."Whenever you are ready." I chucked to Linda since my body was telling me that the drill would be over by the time I was ready. So, I left it to the mind to run the body today. It felt as if I were moving in slow motion doing burpies and push-ups between combos. As I continued to punch the bag, I could feel my right arm feeling sore. It was like trying to lift up a ton of bricks to make contact with the bag. I just kept hopping on my feet, breathing, and trying to continue with punches.
As we were getting ready for abs, I grabbed med balls for Linda & I. We had a mix of songs today, but one was really affecting her today for some reason. When she told me why, I could just see a flood of emotions hitting her. It was a collision of everything she was going through, past and present. All I could say was, "I'm so glad you are here" as I hugged her.
A workout at Title is a whole lot more than just punching a bag. It's a release. It's seeing where you've been and where you hope to be someday. I'm so glad Linda & I were able to connect today. Sometimes in life, you cross paths with someone that you just know is there for the long haul. Linda is one of those people and I'm fortunate to know her. It was totally a Feel Good Friday!
After our workout, Linda sent me the following note. Goosebumps! So, I am sharing...

Thoughts from a friend…
The first word today was “Slug”. Becky and I were not ‘hitting it hard’
today. We felt sluggish as we slugged
the bags this morning. Day 33 for Becky
and the first day in two weeks for me, so we slugged our way through.
Then Christina Aguilera’s song “Fighter” came on for our
final 2 minute free-style punching. This
isn’t Becky’s typical style of music, but the song, which came out in 2003,
holds special meaning to me. I played
this song over and over as I recovered from my battle with breast cancer while
raising my twin babies. Its’ chorus is
what I said to the cancer, “Thanks for making me a fighter”. So the word of the day became “Fighter” as we
‘hit it hard’ for 2 minutes.
When I picked up Becky at 5:30am, I was amazed at how great
she looks. She said she has “only” lost
8 pounds in these 33 days (Becks – that’s a lot!) but has gone down a whole
size. You can tell!
It is interesting to see people’s reactions when she tells
them about her quest. “Crazy!”, “Why?”, “What made you think of doing this?”,
“Wow”.
But Becky, I want to tell you that you are amazing,
inspiring, strong, uplifting…and a fighter.
And you’ve made me want to be a fighter again, too.
So I want to say thank you
'Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter
'Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

One week from today, Becky! You are going to make it to your
goal – thanks for sharing your journey.

Day 32: Life Starts.....Now!
Why am I pulling myself out of bed at 5:05 a.m? I must have lost my mind? But, I have to hit I-35 shortly to make the journey out to 153rd to hit Tina's class to put Day 32 to rest. I'm not gonna lie, today was REALLY hard. My body wants to stay in my comfy bed and sleep for a few more hours.
I made it out the door, but what to listen to? I got it! Life Starts Now by Three Days Grace...It got me through one of the most difficult races I have ever done. I felt inclined to go back and read my capture from last year's Rock the Parkway 1/2 Marathon. It's amazing that it's been almost a year ago....Kinda long but all details are important on this one...attached below.
Just
to wrap up all the loose ends, Jerik did go to the hospital to get stitches in
his leg and made it to Prom just in time.

Back to today's details.....
This is the part I knew would come when I would be put to the ultimate test. It's been teasing me off and on, but today it's officially here. My body is ready to take a break, but I've come too far to quit now.
When I met Tina, I could tell right away that I would like her. She had such a positive energy, even at 6 in the crack of dawn! After her warm-up of running lanes with several twists added, I was already wondering how I could continue. At least she had good music on her side...Saliva, Rev Theory, Metallica! I knew I would like her:)
She did a great job explaining everything and showing us proper technique for kicks.
Her session was not easy by any means. I think my favorite Tina quote while doing push-ups is "That sweat dropping off the end of your nose...That's your fat cells crying!" Love that:) Also, " I know you hate me now, but will love me later in your summer tank tops."
Tina, thanks for shedding a new positive light on a rough start to the day. I am definitely in the mode of marking off each day as a celebration!

Not My Race – 4.2.11
By Becky Fankhauser
As a promise to my 16 year-old nephew, Jerik,
we meet at the starting line to his first ½ marathon at the Rock the Parkway
race. He had worked so hard and trained
for 10 weeks to be able to make the journey.
We waited anxiously as the race started and we were able to take off
with the 2 hours and 45 minute pace group.
At my recommendation, we were starting with this pace group for the
first 3 miles and then could go on our own if we decided. Sharing my marathon experience with Jerik and
ensuring that he didn’t start too fast was first on the agenda. At one point, Jerik tried to speed up and I
encouraged him to hold back and set into a slow pace. As we rounded the first corner and hit the
intersection at Ward Parkway & Washington, we were chatting about our game
plan for the rest of the race. The next
thing I know, Jerik had literally fallen in a huge hole in the street. The completely exposed hole was more than a
foot deep and wide. Then, I noticed that
the concrete cover was lying on the curb on the side of the street. I quickly tried to get him out of the way to
avoid the runners and walkers behind us.
As I set him on the curb, I noticed his shoe had fallen off in the
hole. I grabbed his shoe and began to
assess the damage. Fortunately, a few
bystanders jumped into action to help us out by contacting a police officer on
an ATV and loaning me a cell phone to notify our family. I was kicking myself for unloading my phone
at the last minute to make room for more gel packs.
When
I saw Jerik's leg that was scraped and bleeding all the way down his shin, my
heart just sank. But knowing he was able
to stand up was encouraging, as I thought for sure that his ankle would be
broken. As tears started to run down
Jerik’s cheeks, I tried to be reassuring to him but seeing a doubtful situation
unfolding. I told him if he wanted to
continue, we would even if we had to crawl in.
As I continued to ask the police officer to get a medic, I become very
anxious. At that point, all the runners
were starting the 10K race. It seemed
like an eternity (or about 14 minutes by my watch) to get some help to assess
the situation. Once the medics were on
scene they cleaned up the wound and recommended going to get stitches. At that time, my family had also arrived on
the scene and Jerik quickly said, "I'm finishing this race!" By this time, the 5K race had also started,
so runners were trying to get around the ambulance that was blocking one side
of the street. He told the medics to
wrap it up because he wanted to get going despite the open, bleeding
wound. I got my phone and told the
family that we would continue but to be on standby, in case they needed to come
and pick us up. By my watch, we were
about 35 minutes behind anyone. We were
the last participants to start from this point behind all 3 races (1/2, 10K
& 5K) that were going.
We
quickly caught up with the tail end of the 5K and it was an obstacle course of
baby strollers and leisure walkers enjoying the beautiful morning. Right before
we were getting ready to approach the 2 mile marker, I said “ Let’s touch each
mile marker to take us home.” I was
thinking that we could mark off each mile with a celebration and against all
odds we were able to make it one more mile.
I could tell Jerik thought that was kind of an odd thing to do at first,
but agreed to go along with his crazy Aunt.
As we continued on the deserted course, we entered aid stations with a
destructive path of empty cups and no sign of life anywhere. Fortunately, there were still jugs full of
water, so hydration was still on our side.
It was almost as if we were surviving the end of the world! But, Jerik was determined to finish his first
1/2! We continued through the course
that looped through winding neighborhoods with the only direction being the
orange arrows on the streets. At this
point, I became really nervous and was facing a huge fear of actually getting
lost and off course. In other races I
had run, there was always someone to follow.
Thankfully, the course was clearly marked with all the twists and turns
and we made it back to what felt familiar.
After
reviewing the course the night before, I knew if we could make it to the park,
we might still be able to finish.
Finally, we see the last participant coming towards us as we head
towards the 7 mile loop, who happened to be an 86 year young lady. We referred to her as “our angel.” Along the way, we stopped briefly to gain
direction from several police officers, who quickly told us we were way
behind. Also, that the streets would be
opening very soon and we would not be able to run in the street. We stopped to ask the final pace car, who was
following our angel, how much farther until the turn around. His discouraged face told us this was our
make or break time. We got direction and
headed out at an even increased, full of adrenaline pace. Once we reached the turnaround, the police
officer was starting to pick up the cones and directed us to the sidewalk. So, we started back on the route via the
sidewalk and I continued to run with 1 headphone in my ear. “Life Starts Now” by Three Days Grace started
playing in my ear. It was as if I was
being asked the question….What are you going to do now? Well, the only thing we
could do is put one foot in front of the other and continue into the
unknown. We had no idea how this would
end but knew if we could just catch back up with our angel, then we could get
back on the actual course.
We
had already updated the crew left at the 7 mile aid station of the
situation. They encouraged us to go for
it and they would be waiting with water on our way back. Once we made it back to the stop, I knew we
had to consume some energy or we would sink quickly. We consumed a gel pack and 2 cups of water
each. With the encouraging words and
looks of disbelief after seeing the condition of his leg, we pushed ahead. We had 1 mission at this point, catch that
pace car! We ran and ran with very few words
exchanged between the 2 of us, other that Jerik saying, “We got this!” Jerik continued to touch every mile marker
and even reminded me on a few, as my focus had shifted to survival mode. We continued to see numerous spectators along
the way as we ran by and would shout “thank you” with a little wave of
acknowledgement. We could see the goal of
catching the car in sight, we just had to get there quickly. As we made one last sprint to jump a head of
the police and pace car, I told Jerik, “Let’s catch up and walk for a bit with
them.” It was a sigh of relief when we
caught up to the 2 final warriors making the journey. I turned to them and said breathlessly, “You
don’t know how happy I am to see you!”
We walked on and exchanged stories for a few minutes. We learned that Grandma Mary had completed
more than 50 marathons and was walking with her Granddaughter, Sadie. Of course, they were amazed to find out about
his injury and that we had continued. We
also shared that Jerik had another milestone scheduled for that evening, his
first prom! As we now had a police
escort, we continued to receive numerous smiles and encouraging words from
bystanders. At one point, I looked up
just in time to see a photographer snapping a picture of the 4 of us walking
and talking. That would definitely be a captured
moment that could never be forgotten.
After we caught our breath, we told Grandma Mary that we would see her
at the end.
We
took off running again to get this mission completed. As we approached the 10 mile aid station, I
could see hubby and my 2 youngest kiddos, Lily & Brady. Then, I knew we were on the home
stretch. As we reached mile 11 and
touched the sign, my energy was completely drained. I had spent all I had with jumping into protector
mode at the injury site and getting these short legs to move faster than ever
before to catch up. I looked at Jerik
and said, “I need to walk for a few but you go ahead and leave me behind. This
is not my race.” He continued to run and
replied, “Just don’t stop.” As I
continued my walk/run strategy, I could see him disappearing in the
distance. I was never so proud of him
for pushing on and never giving up. The
option to quit never even crossed his mind.
The race did not turn out how we had so carefully planned, but we were
able to reach the finish line. That is
all that really matters and what a story for a first marathon experience (and a
scar to show his future kids.) He is
truly an inspiration, as is Grandma Mary.
To become a warrior in the elite club of marathoners is a huge
accomplishment, but the journey to get there and the paths you cross are
forever with you.

Day 31: I Don't Wanna Stop
Made it to the Liberty club with no problems. Going directly from work this time cut the drive time a bit.
Steve let us know before class started that he was very vocal. Boy, was he not lying. He was very direct, which I like. He made it very clear that everyone would have to stay on the rope between sets or ELSE! Because I built my foundation at The 7-6, that is just tattooed on my brain. NEVER STOP!
He was very diligent to explain how important it is to follow some boxing basics. He talked a lot about learning to breath correctly. He told us "Many of wars in the ring have been won by breathing." It does make a huge difference when you back off the bag and take a few deep breaths. I revives you and gives you the push to keep going. I was always in the habit of getting my breathing into a comfortable pattern from running, so it just naturally carried over to Boxing for me. I say running, especially distance, is 3 things....Mental, Music, & Breathing! I guess that holds true for lots of things, huh?
Steve was sure to walk around and observe everyone in the class. It was a pretty big class and I would guess he stopped by my bag about 10 times. He was very encouraging and took the time to correct as needed. I'm sure he burned a few cals from running all over the place :)
I believe Steve is fairly new to the Liberty arena, as another member was telling me about him. She said her daughter got her to start boxing about 3 weeks ago. Her daughter said, "Go to Steve and you will feel SO much better about everything." She just loves him and I can see why. I loved his energy, attention to detail, and passion to change lives.
Planks were back to haunt me again...1 minute on each side, then 1 minute in the middle. But, I made it and that is all that counts. Day 31...Take that!!
As I cruised back to KS, I felt great. I let Ozzy Oz (I Don't Wanna Stop) take me home...
I don't know what they're talking about
I'm making my own decisions
This thing that I found ain't gonna bring me down
I'm like a junkie without an addiction
All my life I've been over the top
I don't know what I'm doing
All I know is I don't wanna stop
All fired up, I'm gonna go till I drop
You're either in or in the way
Don't make me, I don't wanna stop
My body continues to be like a roller coaster. After one workout, I feel like I could go run a marathon (ok well, maybe 1/2). Then, the next one is so challenging on even the things I can do well. But...I Don't Wanna Stop!!!

Day 30: Survive & Advance
It's 5:43 a.m. and on the way to 121st club. I called the club just to reconfirm that Alemeo would be the trainer. He actually answered the phone, so I knew it was gonna be a good day. He sounded taken back when I asked who the trainer would be this morning. His reply, "That's me today, Alemeo." Alrighty, next task was to finish off the Luna bar since I have to consume some sort of energy before I take on the bag.
Alemeo did a great job at warming up and I was very thankful. Then, we started out with running, side shuffles, bear crawls, and leap frog jumps. Once we started on the bag, we got in some good punches while taking breaks with running and Tetris Centipede drills. This is done by starting in a plank position with your forearms on the mat and move arms up to a push-up position. Next, comes the fun part of walking your hands back to meet your feet while pushing your body up like a Centipede. Then, you repeat by going down to the plank again. It doesn't sound too difficult unless your arms are already toast.
Another fun thing was facing a partner in the push-up position. Then, as you come up for the push-up, you would exchange a cross punch while meeting your partner's glove. Alemeo knew this would push you to a mental place to overcome the physical exhaustion. He said, "Don't look at that clock...It's not going to save you!"
By the end of the workout, I'm not sure how I kept moving. We were running and doing side shuffles while holding a med ball above our heads. My arms and legs were fading. My brain was trying to stay one step ahead of my body. It made me dig deep and thought about the reminder I have above my computer at work. I acquired it when I was logging lots of running miles and still gives me motivation. I look at it everyday.
"Now if you are going to win any battle,
you have to do one thing.
You have to make the mind run the body.
Never let the body tell the mind what to do.
The body will always give up.
It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night.
But, the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

Day 29: Love Handles
On my way to Olathe and felt good about confirmation of Blydell as the trainer. I just wasn't exactly sure about location, so it's always a little nerve racking to make sure I arrive on time. Traffic was on my side, so only about 22 minutes travel time.
As we were getting settled, Blydell made the rounds to welcome everyone. That is always a good feeling, especially in an unfamiliar place. I meet Ashley, who was boxing next to me. This was only her 3rd class and was already in love. After having a baby 6 mos ago, she was ready to get fit! She told me she already felt better after only a few sessions. I was really happy for her for finding this outlet, as I remember what I felt like after childbirth.
Blydell was very jolly throughout class. He gave instructions while dancing, singing, and had a contagious smile. At times, he reminded me of a cartoon character with some of his facial expressions. The hour did not go without challenges for me. Between EVERY punch combo, we would do push-ups, squats, burpies, jumping jacks and other drills.
Before we started ab work, we played musical jumping jacks. While music was on we were throwing power punches. When music was turned off, then did jumping jacks while counting out like we were shouting from a rooftop. If it wasn't loud enough, then we would continue with jacks. In the final round, we starting counting 10, 20, 30, 40 jacks. I think everyone was just looking at Blydell while he was pacing the floor smiling and shaking his head, like it was music to his ears. We continued...50, 60, 70. As everyone is looking around at each other, I think to myself..are we going to bust out 100? The answer was absolutely! We hit 100! Our reward....We got to take off our gloves and grab a med ball. Oh, and our legs realizing we did 100 jacks on top off all the previous rounds!
On to the next challenge..ABS! When he said this is for the obliques, I could really feel something moving. I think these are the love handle exercises. Sweet! Maybe I'm finally figuring out how to do this correctly? So long love handles!!
As I left the parking lot jamming out to Alice In Chains, I had to pass by the temptation called Chipolte. I was starving after my marathon of jacks, but decided that would not do any favors for the love handles:) So, decided to just hit the road back to The OP.

Day 28: Crossing the Line
Hit the road in a hurry to make it across the line. Missouri, that is! My mission was to get to Tony's 11:30 class @ the Parkville club. I knew my friend, Karla Chiarelli, would be meeting me, so didn't want to be late. I HAD to stop for some Gatorade to help with some extra hydration. Last night's festivities were starting to catch up and needed some more insurance. It was such a nice day outside, so was ready to get through the workout and enjoy some sunshine!
I arrived just in time to get wrapped and to meet Chiarelli's friend, Kelley. I heard Tony yelling to hit the trail outside, so here comes my sunshine. I started to have flashbacks of Cisco's class when I almost upchucked from all the running. As we rounded the first corner outside, I heard Tony say, "We are going 2!" So, Chiarelli & I decided to just keep a nice steady pace. Chiarelli said, "I'm running at Fank's pace today." Since I only have 1 speed set for distance running, it's a stumbling block for me to be at a sprint. I don't want to blow all my energy upfront, I like to savor it to make sure the tank is not empty. By the time we were done, I'm guessing it was about 1/2 mile or so distance. I was trying to get my breathing in sync, but was having a hard time trying to carry on a conversation with Chiarelli. Usually, it takes me a mile + a half to completely warm-up and settle into a good pace with relaxed breathing.
Once we returned back inside, we continued to warm up while incorporating some ab work, squats, push-ups, and mountain climbers. I was liking Tony's quick change method. If struggling with something, the quick change gives you some relief. I was getting pumped up, despite a little soreness from 2 back-to-back hard core Kickboxing sessions the last 2 days. I was ready to hit that bag!
As we started in on some punches, I was loving it! I got my breathing in sync and it felt good to get some power going. I was sweating buckets at this point and all the impurities were saying farewell:) As the class continued, I began to struggle more but just kept going. I looked over at Chiarelli a few times to give her the look of OMG! She responded back with the same look.
As we laid flat on our backs to start the ab work, the sweat was just burning my eyes worse than ever before. I continued through for about a minute with my eyes closed and hoping it would subside. Once it did, I was ready to take on the world. I knew we were on the home stretch and could see the end. I could not wait to get back out in the sunshine!
Tony's class was definitely a challenge and felt great to get it completed! I'm such a music nut and for the first time I can't even really remember the music. This time music was not my motivator. I just tried to keep my focus on the end goal. This is new territory for me!
After class, I chatted with Tony for a few and got a pic. We talked about the different trainers he knows in the Title arena. I learned that the first class he took was with Master Melvin. He had not worked out for about 6 months and he DID upchuck during the workout. He also attends our very own, Jason Lawson's Kick class @ The 7-6.
I drove away in the sunshine headed back to The OP listening to...Buck Cherry (Live!). Music cranked in the mini van with a crowd of people screaming, windows down, and a great rest of the day waiting for me.
I arrived just in time to get wrapped and to meet Chiarelli's friend, Kelley. I heard Tony yelling to hit the trail outside, so here comes my sunshine. Day 27: WE are Warriors!
Kyra~Makenzie~Becky~Christian~Sally~Kim
Today
I was excited to workout with my twin daughters, Kyra & Makenzie. They love to go hit the bag and feel
such a sense of accomplishment after they attend a class. They haven’t gotten to go much lately,
as I’ve been focused on my mission.
Being the 27th day and thinking about my 27th year
of life, that is when it all changed.
That is when we were doubly blessed to become parents. We were clueless and had no idea how
amazing it would be.
I
was relaxed when we arrived to know that Kim had already confirmed Christian
would be in the house today. He
had not been in class the last few weeks due to traveling in Switzerland. I put Kim on the case and she was sure to follow up with me
to confirm. So, all was good for
my schedule.
I
could hear some shouts in the back of the room coming from Kim &
Sally. I was so glad to see them
and know they would be pushing hard right along side me. I told Christian I was nervous for his
class because I know his style and had not attended his class in quite some
time. I was just hoping I could
walk the next day, as my legs would be toast. I still remember my first class with Christian. I had a scrap on my shin that popped
open after hitting the bag a few times.
The blood was flowing on my leg and decorating the bag. I had to stop and go ask Kim for an
extra towel and some band-aids.
Then, just decided to not kick with that leg. When Christian saw it…He said, “You are a warrior!”
Christian
opened the class with letting us know he had been out for the last 2 weeks, so
he would take it easy on us. Yeah,
right! Then, he asked...”Was
anyone drinkin last night?” We
heard a few grumbles. Then he
asked, “Is anyone planning on drinkin tonight?” I was thinking about the wedding celebration that I’d be
attending and wondering if I could keep it in check. Usually, I don’t partake in adult bevs when on a training
schedule. When marathon training, my
record was 86 days without a brew.
I tend to have better performance, a higher energy level, and keeps me
on track with nutrition. Hangover food is never a good idea for this body.
We
proceeded with running, squats, med ball drills, squats, push-ups, squats,
push-ups…Oh, did I mention squats?
That is Christian’s specialty and pushes until your legs are flaming! That was just the 25 minute
warm-up. I’ve heard Christian say
in the past that he wants you worn out before you even hit the bag. This session was proving the same
point. My girls were hanging in
there. I was so proud! I knew it would be a grueling workout,
so told them before we started that breaks were OK.
Once
we hit the bag and started on kicks, I reminded the girls that Christian’s
kicks are different than anyone else’s.
He prefers we kick the bag and hit with our shins, not the top of our
foot or shoestrings. It
actually felt good to start kicking the bag the stretch out the legs after the
abuse they took from Katie’s class last night.
About
halfway through the class, Christian asks, “Does anyone else smell bacon?” Well, now that he mentioned
it…Yes! I couldn’t help but smell
an overwhelming smell of bacon!
Boy, did it smell delicious!
He told us all to work hard and then we could go have some. I’m still not sure where the smell was
coming from but was an evil trick for sure.
As
we started our plank portion of class, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” started
playing. I yelled at Sally and told
her to listen. This was the lyrics
I posted on my blog that she loved and posted on her Facebook. She had a huge smile and seemed to be
even stronger to hold that plank.
I
LOVE it at the end of class when Christian tells us to stretch out and then
just lie there and relax. His
class is definitely a challenge for anyone and if you survive, you are a warrior. We all survived….WE are warriors!
Day 26: Girl Power!
Kyley & I got back to the 7-6 tonight and knew we were in for a treat. A total butt kicking treat! It's such a familiar peace there for me. I got to see Kim and thank her for stalking the trainers to make sure they would stay on schedule. She said she might even have to step in a teach a class to help with my goal of not duplicating trainers. That would be fun for sure! She is rockin! She always has a genuine attitude to make sure you are getting the best experience.
As we got our place at the bag, I was approached by another member, Sarah. She told me that she reads my blog everyday and is motivated by it. She joined Title just 2 weeks ago. She thinks about me when it's hard for her to get up in the mornings to work out. This makes me smile:) Thanks Sarah for giving me more fuel. I will see you again around The 7-6.
Katie's workout was even more challenging than I remember. Between kick combos, push ups, burpies, running laps, I was just trying to keep up. I even felt pretty strong today and not as run down as the past few days. She gets right down to business and keeps an extremely fast pace rolling the whole hour. Looking at her guns (see pic), I don't think you want to disagree with her:) I haven't seen her in a bit and asked what she had been doing since I was gone. She is looking even more cut! Her response..."Just boxing and PULL UPS." Wow!
K & I really enjoy going to work out together. We might hear a song or a certain drill that prompts an inside joke that is sure to get a chuckle. The unspoken smile is a definite boost when trying to master something that has a high difficulty level. We did try some different things tonight, so now are on my list to try to improve.
Katie ~ Thanks for making me kick it up a notch!

Day 25: Still Alive
Out the door at 5:39 and in route to 148th to catch Art's 6a class. After last nights shake up and not enough sleep, I forgot to call to confirm the trainer. So, I'm in my car with a dead cell phone plugged in waiting for the light to show a sign of life. Plan was to try to call 148th on the way and if trainer was no dice, then get on the horn to 121st. Alemeo is listed on their Thurs 6a time slot, so that was my back-up plan. Just waiting for cell phone to give me some hope and finally I see the go light! I am approaching Lamar & College, so need to make a quick decision for direction. I called the 148th club to ask if Art will be the trainer today. I hear...No....it will be Paige. I started breathing again and hit the gas pedal to continue on to 148th. Yes! I think Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam says it best....
I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, but, I'm still alive
At each stop light, I continue to wrap my hands. I'm actually getting pretty good at it while on the move:) I knew I would be arriving right at Go time, so wanted to be as ready as I could. I arrive and walked through the door and they are just starting to warm-up. Just made it! I quickly look for Paige since I have no idea who she is. I see this blonde girl with long, beautiful curly locks of hair. After the second lap, I see James getting geared up to come take some hits with us. I am just emotionally, as well as physically drained but keep moving with one foot in front of the other. I was hoping I wouldn't get tripped up on the side shuffle while in my daze.
Paige's workout was definitely more perky than I could even imagine being at 6 a.m. I just felt like I was in the twilight zone and moving in slow motion. I've definitely hit another wall, but how do I pull myself back up? I continue with the workout and get a pretty good sweat going. I think Paige did a good job with giving direction as she would float from front to back to demonstrate punch combos. Each time I would hit the bag it was like someone was pulling my arms in the opposite direction. Both shoulders were tight and just wanted a break. I did slow up a bit, but didn't stop. Wouldn't the pain just be forgotten and go away after awhile?
When the workout was done, James was waiting to take our pic before I even asked. I had already bugged him several times to capture all the other trainers. Every time I'm there, he is there! I wonder if he sleeps? I appreciate the support while visiting the club. They have made me feel right at home.
Paige ~ Thanks for saving the day so I can continue my streak! I think I need some tips to still look amazing after a 6a workout:)
James ~You Rock! Thanks for encouraging me every time I see you!!
I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, but, I'm still alive
Yeah I, ooh, I'm still alive

Day 24: Turning on a Dime
As I called 153rd Olathe club to confirm that Josh would be the trainer tonight, I began to panic. I was told the trainer would be Cam, who I trained with last night. I could not break my exclusive trainer streak!! What to do? What to do? I always have my back-up, Jeron at The 7-6, who I was saving for my last week. Jeron was my first trainer, so he has a special place:) But wait, Jason was subbing for Jeron tonight for the 7:30 class.....Darn!! Things happen for a reason, right?
Luckily, I have all the club phone numbers so I starting calling each club on the way home from work. I was just hoping there would be some unknown sub that wasn't on my spreadsheet. No dice on that! I had talked to Rocky @ Liberty on the phone just yesterday since they don't have the actual trainers posted online, just time slots. I knew they had 8 trainers and was told that none of them cross over at other clubs right now. Bingo! Road trip to the Liberty club! So, got home and quickly changed into the gear. I looked at mapquest to determine the best route and headed back out the door. After all, the Northland is not in my comfort zone, but I was determined to NOT break my streak. According to mapquest, it would take me 38 minutes to get there. But, 38 minutes when there is a steady rain and slick roads?? I was on a mission into the unknown....again!
When I arrived at the club, it was pretty busy. I see a guy wrapping some newbies at the front door. It was Rocky! I was glad to put a name with a face since I had talked to him on the phone and played 20 questions. I'm sure he was wondering..who is this crazy chic? As I made my way to the floor, the club seemed big. Maybe it's the way it's the L shaped layout. The facility seemed really nice and they have a shower room. Hmmm, note to self...If I'm brave enough to try their 5 (yes A.M.!!) slot, then could shower and head to work from there. I would only need to leave the OP at around 4:05 in the crack of flippin dawn.
Jen was the trainer for the 7:45 Kickboxing class. As I was getting stretched and trying to relax for a minute after the complete shuffle in schedule, I started talking to a teenage girl beside me. She was there with her Mom and that was her first time to attend a class. Her Mom was loving the boxing workout and wanted to get her daughter on the same path. I love, love this!! There were several youngsters in the class with age ranges from about 9 - 16. Where else can you go and feel totally comfortable working out with your kids while they are learning at their own pace? It's fun for them and works off some of those McD fries:)
Jen did a great job of mixing up my workout. I am more a boxing fan than kick. For some reason, it is hard for me to get in a rhythm of kick/box combos. I know my legs need more kick, but just feel more comfortable with my upper limb punches. We did lots of running laps between sets, which was good for me to catch my breath.
This club was definitely unlike any others. As I was leaving, I checked in with Rocky to grab a printed schedule for the remaining week and next. Their schedule changes every week to mix up the trainers in different time slots. For a planner like myself, this gives me heartburn...But, is actually a cool thing to keep the bod shaken up. Isn't that what I'm doing by driving 38 minutes into the Northland? Interesting approach!
Jen skated out without our pic and I was ready to click my heels together and head back to KS.

Day 23: Part 2
We had a great workout together. It was a full class with great energy in the air. We both got some hard punches in and left some calories on the mat!
I think the ab portion of Cam's class was the toughest I've encountered so far. I could feel my abs burning! I really struggled with trying to hold my legs up while leaning 3/4 of the way back. In addition, laying flat while holding a med ball on my ankles and keeping my legs from dropping to the ground. This one definitely got the best of me!
Kyley ~ Thanks for making my life amazing!!!
Dusty ~ Thanks for being my photographer, answering my phone calls when I need to confirm the trainer, and always giving me a shout when I come through the door. Now, if you could just say in your announcer voice...Let's Get Ready to Ruuummmmbbbllle:)
Day 23: I'm the Lucky One!
Hubby got the chance to come workout with me last night. I don't know if I'm rubbing off on him, but he has been on fire lately. I'm so proud of him! He has the passion for the bag back. Well, it never really left, but medical reasons caused it to be minimized.
Just last week we hit our 20 year anniversary of meeting each other in college. Because of Bootlegger's Bar & Grill in Frontenac, Kansas & Big A (Anthony Russell), that spark was created. I still remember not wanting to meet anyone and wanting to just be free. But, things do happen for a reason. Little did I know, that he would be the man of my dreams for eternity.
Not only the best hubs, but seeing him with our kids, would make you smile. He is patient, gentle, kind, and ALWAYS puts our needs ahead of his own. Ask any women what romance means? It's when you see your husband and kid (s) bonding for the first moment of their lives or when he gets that look in his eye...The one when he realizes he wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world.
This post had to be paused for a bit as tears are just falling....happy & lucky ones..

Day 22: The Ultimate Mash
As I arrived at 119th to attend Sean's class, I was surprised to see Kevin from The 7-6 getting wrapped and ready to get his fight on. I appreciated him coming out to show support on this 22nd day. Thanks, Kevin! We watched Sean as he was finishing wrapping up his personal training session. The guy looked like he had been put through the ringer and was relieved to put it in the books.
As I made my way over to the Annex side, I was hoping it wasn't a boiling temperature, like what I had previously experienced. The big fan was kickin and it was actually cool in there. One girl even said that it was cold. I think everyone else at the same time said, "Don't complain!" As class started, Sean was pumping out some good tunes. I was confused at first, as I heard 15 seconds of Metallica, then Banana Rama, then The Toadies? It was one good song after another all mashed together in 15 second intervals. Playing name that tune in my head took my mind off doing high knees, sprinting, and burpies.
Sean kept the class rolling at an intense speed with punch combos, but the music kept the fire going. During one of the push-up rounds, I looked over at Kevin and could see the sweat rolling off his nose like a continuous river. On the mat below him, you could see a huge pool of burnt calories! His body was giving him a High 5 as a result of the trainer switch up:)
I learned that Sean finds his song mixes online, then kicks it up a notch even more by adding in some of his own. I got to hear about 300 recognizable songs all in 60 minutes. It was like a music festival of motivation!
I also learned that Sean knows just exactly how to get 6 pack abs and he shared it with us all! !! His advice was 3 fold - continually change up your ab work, eat well, and run! Well, at least I can do 1 of those things, so when can I expect my 2 pack??
After class, Kevin & I spent a few extra minutes talking to Sean about the mystery of calorie intakes. He genuinely likes to help others gain fitness and meet their goals. He seems very passionate about overall wellness. I'm looking forward to learning from his wealth of knowledge and playing name that tune again!
