Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment
Would you capture it?
Or just let it slip

Day 27: WE are Warriors!

Kyra~Makenzie~Becky~Christian~Sally~Kim
Today I was excited to workout with my twin daughters, Kyra & Makenzie.  They love to go hit the bag and feel such a sense of accomplishment after they attend a class.  They haven’t gotten to go much lately, as I’ve been focused on my mission.   Being the 27th day and thinking about my 27th year of life, that is when it all changed.  That is when we were doubly blessed to become parents.  We were clueless and had no idea how amazing it would be.

I was relaxed when we arrived to know that Kim had already confirmed Christian would be in the house today.  He had not been in class the last few weeks due to traveling in Switzerland.   I put Kim on the case and she was sure to follow up with me to confirm.  So, all was good for my schedule.

I could hear some shouts in the back of the room coming from Kim & Sally.  I was so glad to see them and know they would be pushing hard right along side me.  I told Christian I was nervous for his class because I know his style and had not attended his class in quite some time.  I was just hoping I could walk the next day, as my legs would be toast.  I still remember my first class with Christian.  I had a scrap on my shin that popped open after hitting the bag a few times.  The blood was flowing on my leg and decorating the bag.  I had to stop and go ask Kim for an extra towel and some band-aids.  Then, just decided to not kick with that leg.  When Christian saw it…He said, “You are a warrior!”

Christian opened the class with letting us know he had been out for the last 2 weeks, so he would take it easy on us.  Yeah, right!  Then, he asked...”Was anyone drinkin last night?”  We heard a few grumbles.  Then he asked, “Is anyone planning on drinkin tonight?”  I was thinking about the wedding celebration that I’d be attending and wondering if I could keep it in check.  Usually, I don’t partake in adult bevs when on a training schedule.  When marathon training, my record was 86 days without a brew.  I tend to have better performance, a higher energy level, and keeps me on track with nutrition. Hangover food is never a good idea for this body.

We proceeded with running, squats, med ball drills, squats, push-ups, squats, push-ups…Oh, did I mention squats?  That is Christian’s specialty and pushes until your legs are flaming!  That was just the 25 minute warm-up.  I’ve heard Christian say in the past that he wants you worn out before you even hit the bag.  This session was proving the same point.  My girls were hanging in there.  I was so proud!  I knew it would be a grueling workout, so told them before we started that breaks were OK.

Once we hit the bag and started on kicks, I reminded the girls that Christian’s kicks are different than anyone else’s.  He prefers we kick the bag and hit with our shins, not the top of our foot or shoestrings.   It actually felt good to start kicking the bag the stretch out the legs after the abuse they took from Katie’s class last night.

About halfway through the class, Christian asks, “Does anyone else smell bacon?”  Well, now that he mentioned it…Yes!  I couldn’t help but smell an overwhelming smell of bacon!  Boy, did it smell delicious!  He told us all to work hard and then we could go have some.  I’m still not sure where the smell was coming from but was an evil trick for sure.

As we started our plank portion of class, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” started playing.  I yelled at Sally and told her to listen.  This was the lyrics I posted on my blog that she loved and posted on her Facebook.  She had a huge smile and seemed to be even stronger to hold that plank.

I LOVE it at the end of class when Christian tells us to stretch out and then just lie there and relax.  His class is definitely a challenge for anyone and if you survive, you are a warrior.  We all survived….WE are warriors!
