My main squeeze got to accompany me today to check out Melvin's class. We arrived at 121st & State Line club at 8:45a for the 9:00 Power Hour. That was super early around there as we were the first to arrive. We usually have to fight our way to a bag at The 7-6.
I am so fortunate to have my hubby, Kyley, in my life and to share the same interest is always a plus. You know he's a boxing addict now, but didn't start out that way. I remember the first night I asked him to go with me almost a year ago. Halfway through Jeron's workout, I thought he was going to kill me. He had no idea how challenging it would be, but knew he was ready to kick up his fitness level. I had attended Jeron's class with our friend, Suzanne Stratman, a few days prior and already decided to get the membership. So, we arrived early for class and I just signed us up for the family membership before he had a chance to back out. Now, he thanks me everyday for making that executive decision. After class, he is always on top of the world! I've seen his body transform into greatness....and his whole attitude on life. Recently, he had some medical issues which threatened being able to box. Slowly but surely, he has started back to feel that passion again. Even though he still can't go full force, it's definitely the best medicine for his spirit.
Melvin was a tough cookie today, but you can't be mad cause he does it all with a smile. Boy, did these muscles get a workout today, but to have Kyley by my side was a wonderful feeling. As we started class, Melvin came by to say hey to everyone. He told Kyley that he could see those calories going away. Kyley told me later that Melvin's words of encouragement was the coolest thing. It made him want to keep going and work even harder! Now, that is POWER!!
Melvin's class was non-stop and really mixed up my usual routine. At least the sore muscles were getting loosened up and didn't feel as bad as when I stepped out of bed. I was able to do the "famous" bear crawls around the perimeter, but when switched to ape crawls* that is when I was hanging by a thread. *Ape Crawls - Moving at a fast pace while down on all 4s. Moving both arms forward at the same time, then jumping both legs forward to meet up with arms. Not sure if this is the technical name for this maneuver, but what it felt like while trying to do it.
We both survived the workout and even got a hot, sweaty pic to prove we were there!
Melvin, thanks for helping us trick these muscles and the priceless encouragement.
Suzanne, thanks for getting me hooked and changing our lives!
Kyley, thanks for all your support through this crazy journey:)
